FREE CONTENT: Coats Group to purchase Pharr High Performance

Coats Group plc of Uxbridge, UK, has signed a binding agreement to purchase Pharr High Performance (Pharr HP), a supplier of yarn for protective apparel, including to the industrial thermal protection, defence and fire service industries. The acquisition is expected to complete in early 2020.

Pharr HP’s manufacturing facilities and customer base will be incorporated into Coats’ existing Personal Protection business, part of its Performance Materials segment. Coats plans to retain Pharr’s workforce and continue operations at its manufacturing facility in McAdenville, North Carolina, USA. With the addition of Pharr HP, Coats will have manufacturing sites located in North Carolina—McAdenville, Kings Mountain, Marion and Hendersonville as well as its corporate office in Charlotte.

The Group Chief Executive of Coats, Rajiv Sharma, said: "Pharr HP expands our existing manufacturing capabilities and widens our innovation offering to drive further penetration into the personal protection market. With Pharr HP we are acquiring deep expertise in technical yarn solutions helping us to create ever lighter, stronger and more comfortable yarns for the most extreme environments, protecting many of those who protect us. We will draw upon our strong track record of successfully integrating and growing bolt-on acquisitions, including Gotex and Patrick Yarn Mill(1), which form an integral part of our Performance Materials business."

At the same time, Pharr Fibers & Yarns, suppliers and manufacturers of fibres and yarns for the carpet industry in North America and globally, is being sold to Mannington Mills of Salem, New Jersey, USA, together with carpet manufacturer Phenix Flooring. These disposals mean that Pharr will no longer be involved with the textile industry.
