The merits of laser welding for the fabrication of textiles for medical and personal protection was discussed in June 2009 at the Techtextil Symposium held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, by Arvind Patil of TWI of Cambridge, UK. The technique is just one of many fabric joining methods that include stitching, adhesive bonding, hot air/wedge welding, ultrasonic welding, high frequency welding and heat sealing.
