The interaction between a textile implant and the surrounding tissue is extremely complex: the textile structure as well as the fibre structure has an influence on the implant ingrowth. According to Philipp Schuster of the Institut fur Textiltechnik (ITA), RWTH Aachen University, the choice of material, manufacturing process and design of the product have to be adjusted to the end-use.
