At the recent Techtextil trade fair held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Smartfiber launched Smartcel Hygienic, a functional lyocell fibre that incorporates copper to counteract pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. Among a range of applications, the fibre could be used in automotive air filters or in functional nonwovens to reduce bacteria and eliminate unpleasant odours.
