A new report from John R Starr estimates global capacity for spunbonded polypropylene nonwovens in 2009 at 2.3 million tonnes. According to the US management consulting firm, the industry comprises more than 100 producers who, in 2009, operate more than 250 manufacturing lines. Many spunbonded polypropylene producers struggle with profitability while others are performing well despite historically high raw material costs.
