Polymer particles that are irradiated with radiation from a high energy source have been developed by the Super Absorbent Company of Lumberton, North Carolina, USA. The resulting particles are said to have increased water or other fluid absorbency, and could find application in a number of end-uses, including protective undergarments and bandages.
