An absorbent core for use in an absorbent hygiene article is disclosed by Kimberly-Clark in US Patent 7 378 566. The substrate is folded into a series of panels, at least some of which have been modified by aperturing, calendering, coating, creping, heating, printing, stretching or a combination of these to impart different fluid handling functions.
