Ethicon has disclosed a process for the formation of high-strength bioabsorbable multifilament sutures in US Patent 7 378 045. The fibres are said to have significantly higher tensile strength and higher in vivo break strength retention,while maintaining superior handling characteristics, elongation at break and absorption rate.
