USA's Polymer Group Inc (PGI) says it has found a way to transfer an image or pattern to a pre-coloured fibrous component of a woven fabric by means of a hydraulic treatment. International Patent WO 03/29542 describes a variety of ways to achieve this. In one example, for instance, the hydraulic treatment created a three-dimensional image on a fabric that comprised interwoven warp and weft yarns consisting of aesthetically contrasting fibrous components. Highpressure jets of liquid - usually water - displaced the interwoven yarns to form the desired pattern.
