World Fibers Inc of Concord, North Carolina, USA, has developed an antimicrobial and cut-resistant yarn specifically for safety gloves. In US Patent 6 779 330, the inventor says that the yarn is a core wrapped with at least one covering component. Because it incorporates an antimicrobial component, the yarn is particularly suited for making gloves used by meat cutters and others who use knives, saws or other sharp instruments. It serves to reduce bacteria, mould and fungi growth on protective garments between washes.
