    Steve Warner

Driven by the military need for ballistic restraint materials and medical products, the US market for smart fabrics grew by 27% in 2008 to reach a value of US$193 million, according to the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI). “The US military has been the incubator for a wide range of smart textiles and exotic materials,” said IFAI President Steve Warner, “with the drive towards developing new materials which can sense and react to environmental conditions or interact with other technologies.”
