Shima Seiki is currently collaborating with one of the oldest and most respected department stores in Japan, Takashimaya, to take orders for custom knitwear manufactured on its latest WholeGarment technology. WholeGarment's on-demand knitting technology allows mass-customization ssituations in which knitwear can be produced according to individual size, shape and design. Because the entire garment can be produced in one piece in a single process, this can take place in a matter of hours, if not minutes. Such quick turnaround relies not only on the cutting-edge machinery, but also the capability of the design system. At the heart of the made-to-order concept is Shima Seiki's Ordermade software featured on its SDS-ONE and SDS-ONE APEX apparel design systems.
