Atomic-layer reinforcements for spider silk
Adding titanium, aluminium and zinc metals to spider silk can make it up to ten times stronger with greater extensibility. This could result in the production of super-tough textile-based composite materials for a range of industry end-uses according to scientists at the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics in Halle, Germany.
