A number of projects have been initiated to explore the potential of integrating electronics and other new technologies into clothing through the European Union's Sixth Framework programme for research and development. One is ProeTEX, which has received Euro8 million in EU funding and a further Euro4 million from industry, in a bid to ascertain which specific new technologies would be most valuable in the outfits of emergency workers.
