
1 April 2000 -Ninety years of experience helps J.B. Broadley cope with rapid change
Editor Nick Butler visited J.B. Broadley to learn more about the company™s 90 years of experience in textile coating. In addition, he learned a great deal about how rapidly the markets have changed in recent years.In 1910 a young salesman started a business which still bears his name as we enter the 2000s. J.B. Broadley began as a merchant converter to leathercloth and bias binding for the footwear industry. In those early days, the company used direct coating to apply nitro cellulose. Stepping forward a decade, Cunliffe Jackson expanded the business and in 1926 J.B Broadley became a limited company. Innovation and invention were encouraged by Jackson who (in collaboration with an employee, Mr Holmes) invented a jointless bias binding. Such a spirit endures and today, under Technical Director Derek Boyden, the company prides itself that all its products are developed from the efforts of its own research and development...
